Case Study: Charlie Munns - Business Administration apprentice
At Woodspeen Training we lead by example. Our business understands the value of apprentices, specifically business administration apprentices. They are littered throughout our business, from the pharmacy team to finance and compliance. These apprentices bring a fresh perspective and the skills they learn both on the job and through their programme have enabled our business to thrive.
We caught up with Charlie Munns to find out about her apprenticeship in the pharmacy team.
I am the pharmacy support officer here at Woodspeen Training. I previously worked in retail and hospitality and realised I didn’t want to be in those industries forever, so I applied for a business administration apprenticeship at Woodspeen Training.
It started with an interview where I was asked, ‘what do you know about pharmacy?’, the short answer was ‘nothing’. I didn’t have a background in either pharmacy or healthcare. Being offered the apprenticeship, came purely from the skills I’d learnt in previous roles – customer service, an idea of GDPR, and safeguarding.
From the first day, the pharmacy team were completely welcoming, supporting me to get involved and learn more about the sector. Since I began my role, it has evolved as I’ve learnt more about the pharmacy sector and through my apprenticeship. I have also identified new ways to support the team adding those elements to the post.
As in any role, no two days are the same. I have organised attendance at large events, such as The Pharmacy Show, undertaken the administration of our Skills Bootcamp in Pharmacy – even delivering some of sessions! – and more.
I didn’t have a clear plan for my future when I started my apprenticeship and now I’ve completed it I still don’t have a set path. What I do know though, is that my apprenticeship has given me skills that I can take anywhere and will enable me to grow my career in any sector of my chosing.
