Case Study: Fullwell Cross Medical Centre

Working in a medical environment means you need to be on the ball. Ensuring patient needs are met, whether via the telephone, in writing or through referrals to other services is the most significant part of the role and requires administrators to be able to communicate effectively and be very organised.

Woodspeen Training has worked with Fullwell Cross Medical Centre for many years, so when they were looking to recruit business administration apprentices, Woodspeen Training worked with them to find the right people for the roles.

Name: Andrew Watson

Position: Practice Manager

Company: Fullwell Cross Medical Centre

Name of apprentices at your company: Francesca Harris & Dante Marson

Course they are taking: Business Administration level 3

Woodspeen Training (WT): What made you take on an apprentice(s)?
Andrew Watson (AW): As an organisation we have previously taken on apprentices and had a great experience with them. We were confident we could support our apprentices to achieve their potential whilst we gained some necessary support in the centre.

WT: What apprenticeship course did you choose and why?
AW: We chose Business Administration level 3. We were in need of administrative support within the centre and the breadth of skills that the Business Administration apprenticeship brings to the centre means that our apprentices are able to work in any area. The apprenticeship also enables our apprentices to find their niche through the varied syllabus.

WT: How was the recruitment process with Woodspeen Training?
AW: The free recruitment process with Woodspeen Training was painless and the team are incredibly easy to work with. As Woodspeen Training had done the initial sift for us the candidates they sent us to interview were right for the roles we had available. Once we’d decided on the two apprentices we wanted to employ they were quickly onboarded into our business and their apprenticeship with Woodspeen Training.

WT: How do you facilitate your apprentice completing their off-the-job learning?
AW: We know the importance of the learning our apprentices complete and ensure they are given protected time to complete it. Although this takes them out of the business for a few hours each week, their ability to put their learning into practice straightaway is invaluable.

WT: Would you employ more apprentices through Woodspeen Training and why?
AW: Yes, we would employ more apprentices through Woodspeen Training. We’ve always had a great experience with them, both as recruiters and as skills tutors. Our Woodspeen Training apprentices have all succeeded in their apprenticeships and gone on to grow in their careers.
