Boosting the heart of the community

Funding for 530 Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians announced

At The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK’s conference on Friday 6th September, NHSE Chief Pharmacist, David Webb announced funding for 530 Pharmacy Technician apprenticeships across England. The funding is specifically aimed at supporting community pharmacies, acknowledging the fundamental role they play.

During his speech, David Webb said that this funding marks a transition from the previous NHSE focus on bolstering Pharmacy Technicians in secondary care and primary care networks.

With the launch of Pharmacy First earlier this year, pharmacies have been working to deliver new services, whilst simultaneously ensuring they are still supporting patients access the correct medication. This has led to a number of pharmacies struggling to provide the services that their communities rely on.

The funding for 530 Pharmacy Technician apprenticeships by NHSE will enable community pharmacies to start to address some of these challenges. NHSE are offering a training contribution of £15,053 per trainee, per year for the two year duration of the course. The application window opens on Monday 23rd September until Sunday 13th October, through an expression of interest online form

NHSE are also holding webinars via MS Teams to provide more information on the application process and how to access the funding. The webinars are being held on various dates, but only need to be attended once.
